GETTING AROUND GREECE
The ferry network is Greece's lifeline. Use high-speed catamarans for efficiency, but rely on Blue Star ferries for stability in rough Meltemi winds. Book KTEL coaches for mainland routes; they are reliable and affordable.
WHEN TO VIST
Escape peak July heat by visiting in May or September. The shoulder seasons offer crisp light and fewer crowds. Pack light layers for evenings on the islands, as northern Meltemi winds can bring a sudden chill.
LOCAL TIPS AND TRADITIONS
Dining is a slow art. A round of roughly 10% tip is generous. Respect monastic sites by ensuring shoulders and knees are covered; most island venues provide wraps for weary travelers.
