FINLAND

A landscape of frozen silence, where the Arctic sky meets a sea of ancient pines and northern lights.

OUR FINNISH ADVENTURES

Finland marks the beginning of one of our most ambitious travel adventures yet.

In December 2026, Phill will arrive in Helsinki to begin the Reverse Polar Express — a journey from the Nordic winter to the Mediterranean sunshine, travelling through Europe by ferry and rail.

With its waterfront, distinctive architecture, Christmas atmosphere and fascinating history, Helsinki promises to be an exciting starting point. Arriving over Finnish Independence Day should make the experience even more memorable.

This will be the beginning of our Finnish travel stories, with plenty more of the country still waiting to be explored.

BEFORE YOU GO

Getting Around Finland

The VR rail network is world-class, especially for reaching Lapland via the Santa Claus Express sleeper. Within cities, public transport is seamless—Helsinki's trams are iconic and incredibly reliable even in heavy snow.

When to Visit

Winter is magical for the Northern Lights and snow sports, while summer offers the endless Midnight Sun.

Finnish Culture

Finns value silence and personal space, yet are incredibly welcoming. Tipping isn't expected, but card payments are universal. Don't miss the sauna—it's not a luxury here; it's a fundamental part of daily life.

DECEMBER 2026 JOURNEY

THE REVERSE POLAR EXPRESS

Our upcoming December 2026 journey takes Phill from the Arctic snows of Helsinki to the golden shores of Alicante. A race across Europe by ferry, sleeper train, and high-speed rail to beat Cat to the Mediterranean winter sun.
