From Vibrant Cities to Mediterranean Shores
OUR SPANISH ADVENTURES
Spain has been a regular part of our travels over the years, from exploring the vibrant streets of Barcelona and Madrid to enjoying the Mediterranean atmosphere of Alicante, Málaga and Valencia. We've also experienced a different side of the country on the island of Ibiza.
Whether it's discovering a new neighbourhood, finding somewhere for tapas and a glass of local wine, or simply enjoying the sunshine by the sea, Spain has always offered plenty of reasons to return.
In December 2026, Spain will provide the finishing line for our Reverse Polar Express adventure. After travelling across northern and western Europe, the final stretch will take us through Barcelona to Alicante, where we'll reunite and spend a few days enjoying the Mediterranean before heading home.
With so many different regions, cities and islands still to explore, we're certainly not finished with Spain yet.

GETTING AROUND
Spain has an extensive rail network, including high-speed services connecting major cities. Local trains, trams and public transport make exploring many destinations straightforward. Booking long-distance journeys ahead can offer better fares.
FOOD & DRINK
From tapas and regional specialities to local wines and vermouth, food and drink are a huge part of the Spanish experience. Explore neighbourhood bars, traditional markets and restaurants away from the busiest tourist areas.
LOCAL CULTURE
Spain has distinct regional identities, languages and traditions. Meal times are often later than in the UK, and many cities come alive in the evenings. Take time to enjoy the local atmosphere.
PLANNING AHEAD
Popular attractions, accommodation and high-speed trains can book up during busy periods. Reserve the essentials in advance while leaving plenty of time for spontaneous discoveries.
